All positions are for our Espoo based office and would require working from there, though temporary considerations will be made due to the pandemic.


  • Mechanical/Naval Engineer
Wello is searching for a qualified Mechanical/Naval Engineer to join our team for producing wave energy converting technologies. You would take on a key role within the operations product management team, providing technical input to the design and construction of Wello’s Penguin WEC as well as being able to provide structural drawings of the device.

The role will involve technical liaison, engineering, design for the marine environment and design for construction/O&M. The successful candidate will work closely with the project lead and with existing in-house design engineers and other specialists to provide expertise in stability and strength design of the system.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide drawings of the Penguin WEC for internal and external use.
  • Technical review of subcontractor’s documents.
  • Technical input to the design for operations and maintenance process.
  • Technical input to the design for manufacture process.
  • Support planning and design for marine operations.
  • Technical input and advice relating to the design and construction of structural systems and components.
  • Some level of cost analysis.
  • Support and provide technical liaison with subcontractors in construction, design, anchoring mooring and umbilical system.
  • Providing in-house naval architecture expertise to the project and team

We require:

  • AMK, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical/Naval/Offshore relevant Engineering background.
  • 4 + years’ employment experience in relevant field such as offshore marine structures, with understanding of strength/stability analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and knowledge in SolidWorks / Ansys / AutoCAD also a positive.
  • Self-initiative to develop mechanical systems and be able to present innovative ideas and solutions for development of the wave energy converter.
  • Excellent documenting skills and the ability to be a key member of productization.
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the willingness to work as a member of a team. Fluency in English with excellent, documented writing skills including the development of journal articles, and technical reports.
  • Fluency in Spanish or French seen as a positive but not required for the position.
